My journaling activity tracker

I always knew journaling is helpful. Helpful in clearing my mind, helping me remember things I need to do, and most importantly remember things I should be grateful for. But I have always struggled to maintain a consistent journaling habit. I would journal for a few days, then stop doing it once. I would especially not journal when things are going well and would only feel the need to journal when several things accumulate to the point of causing significant overhelm. I always found an excuse to avoid doing it, and I don’t know how I managed to convince myself to never prioritize it.

A few days ago, I thought it might be helpful to me if I created a visual public tracker of my journaling habit. I thought that tracking my daily journaling, and sharing it in public, would be enough of a motivator to stick with journaling long enough until it becomes a habit. So I vibecoded it

I used CalHeatMap to show my journaling activity (in number of words) in a calendar view, similar to GitHub’s contribution graph.

Journaling tracker -- I'm not so proud of my spiky journaling behavior, but we'll fix that!

I hope to build on this a bit more in the future, tracking themes I journal about.
